Why would anyone name their blog Flapjacks and French Ladies? Good question. I’ll let you know when I find out.
I created this blog while in the library at my alma mater, Eastern Kentucky University. I needed to procrastinate, and procrastinate fast, because I had a report due for my immunology lab the next day. At the time, I was plunging into creative writing and avoiding confrontation with the MCAT exam I had scheduled later that semester. I decided a blog would be a great platform that would get me writing and get me “published” in the big bad
If only I could think of a name for the damned thing.
I scanned my mental library of books, movies, magazine articles, publications, inspirational quotes, fortune cookies...searching for a phrase, an image, or scene that I could lend from to declare my cleverness.
For some reason or another, my mental rolodex stopped on Into the West, the 2005 TV mini series on TNT that follows two fictional families through Westward Expansion in the 19th century. At one point during the series, one of the main characters and narrators, Jacob, is challenged to a duel by a Bad Guy over the ownership of a female Native American. The Bad Guy wants to know if Jacob is chicken/yellow/scared and, asks Jacob if he is going to back out of the duel.
...not for “flapjacks or french ladies.”
